4. BOARD TRAINING: PARENTAL RIGHTS TRAINING FOR SCHOOL BOARD TRUSTEES: Speaker(s): Dr. Gregory Nelson, Superintendent Description: The Board of Trustees will participate in the Parental Rights Training for School Board Trustees developed by the State Board of Education (SBOE) pursuant to Texas Education Code §11.159(b-2), as added by Senate Bill 204 of the 89th Texas Legislature. The training addresses the rights of parents regarding the education of their children in Texas public schools and the role and responsibilities of school board trustees in supporting and respecting those rights through effective governance. The SBOE adopted the Parental Rights Training for School Board Trustees in April 2026. Trustees will complete the required online course through TEA Learn. Successful completion satisfies the statutory parental rights training requirement, and participants will receive a certificate of completion through TEA Learn. Lorenzo ISD will maintain documentation verifying completion of the required training for each trustee. Trustees who took the oath of office before January 1, 2026, are required to complete the training no later than September 1, 2026. Newly elected or appointed trustees are required to complete the training within 120 calendar days of their election or appointment. This training session is provided to support each trustee in meeting the applicable state training requirement and to promote a shared understanding among the Board and Superintendent regarding parental rights and the District's governance responsibilities. No formal action will be taken by the Board during this training session.
