At the June 10, 2024, City Council Meeting, the Mansfield City Council took action to reappoint Cass Robert Callaway to serve a two-year term as Presiding Judge for the Mansfield Municipal Court of Record No.1. Under Texas Government Code Section 29.005, a municipal court judge serves for a term of office of two years unless the municipality provides for a longer term pursuant to Article XI, Section 11, of the Texas Constitution. Section 37.03 of the City's Code of Ordinances limits Presiding Judge appointments to a term of two (2) years. Following the expiration of the two-year term, the City Council has the authority to appoint a new Presiding Municipal Court Judge or, in the alternative, reappoint the existing Municipal Court Judge. In either case, the City Council should make that determination and memorialize the same through the proposed ordinance.
