Staff Report & Agenda Item Details

The existing asbestos cement water lines near the intersection of South Walnut Creek Drive and Stell Avenue are aging and require rehabilitation to reduce the risk of future water main failures, service disruptions, and increased maintenance needs. This project includes the rehabilitation of approximately 8,750 LF of existing asbestos cement water line. Approximately 1,150 LF of 12-inch water line and 7,600 LF of 6-inch water line will be replaced by pipe bursting. Approximately 1,200 LF of existing 6-inch water line along South Walnut Creek Drive will be abandoned in place. Existing connections and fire hydrants currently connected to the 6-inch water line will be reconnected to the existing 12-inch water line located on the east side of South Walnut Creek Drive. Existing water services along the water line being replaced will be reconnected to the existing water line. The project will replace aging asbestos cement water lines through pipe bursting, minimizing excavation and disruption to surrounding properties while reducing the duration of water service interruptions to affected residents. The improvements will reduce the risk of future water main failures, improve the reliability of the water distribution system, and extend the service life of the City's existing water infrastructure. The requested funds are for design services with Egis USA, Inc. in the amount of $333,300.00, which includes a 10% contingency ($30,300.00) for potential design scope changes, survey services with Brittain & Crawford in the amount of $103,300.00, which includes a 10% contingency ($9,400.00) for potential survey scope changes, and right-of-way, easement acquisition, and other miscellaneous services in the amount of $108,700.00, which includes a 15% contingency ($14,200.00). To prepare the project for public bidding and construction, the total requested project budget is $545,300.00. Professional Services Contracts are attached. The estimated construction cost is $3,447,472.00.
