Staff Report & Agenda Item Details

The Insurance Services Office (ISO), through its Public Protection Classification (PPC) program, evaluates community fire protection capabilities and assigns classifications ranging from Class 1 to Class 10. A Class 1 represents the highest level of recognized fire protection under the PPC system. The City of Denison was notified in August 2023 that it had achieved a Class 1 classification, which became effective January 1, 2024. The proposed resolution formally recognizes the City's Class 1 PPC classification and the significant accomplishment represented by achieving the highest available classification. The resolution also recognizes that a community's PPC classification may be considered by insurance companies when establishing property insurance premiums. Because insurance companies determine premiums based on individual policies and their applicable rating practices, the resolution does not guarantee that an individual property owner will receive a reduction in premiums. Instead, residents, property owners, and businesses are encouraged to contact their insurance agents or insurance companies to determine whether the City's Class 1 classification may positively affect their property insurance premiums. Adoption of the resolution will also provide residents and property owners with an official City document that can be referenced when communicating with their insurance providers regarding the potential impact of the City's Class 1 classification on their property insurance premiums.
