League City Public Art Initiative - Budget and Funding Resources Public Art Initiative – During the City Council planning retreats in 2020 and 2021, Public Art and the development of a Public Art Initiative was expressed as a priority moving forward. In 2021, League City initiated the creation of a Public Art Initiative supported by city staff in the Office of Communications and Community Engagement and with citizen advisory members of the Keep League City Beautiful Committee. Public Support – Since its creation, several different groups have been involved with the City’s Public Art Initiative: Keep League City Beautiful Committee, Music Advisory Board, Patrons of the Parks and Arts Foundation, and League City Art Guild. Funding for Initiative – Since FY 2022, League City has dedicated approximately $1.3 million to the Public Art Initiative using primarily special use funds – including Park Dedication Fees ($661,555) and Hotel Occupancy Tax (HOT) collections ($500,000) along with General Funds ($130,000). Projects Using Park Dedications Fees • Ten large scale painted murals at five parks • Six glass mosaic murals at four parks • Six sculptures and art installations at four parks • Ghirardi House building improvements at Heritage Park to create ‘Artists in Residency Studios’.
