REGARDING AN UPDATE ON CURRENT AND FUTURE PROGRAMS. (ASSISTANT CITY MANAGER-HAWKINS) EXPLANATION: Heart of Texas Goodwill Industries, Inc. will provide an overview of its services and programs designed to support individuals in achieving greater independence through employment, vocational training, and skill development. Goodwill’s mission dates back to 1902, when founder Edgar J. Helms developed an innovative approach to helping individuals facing poverty and other disadvantages. By collecting donated goods, providing opportunities for people to repair and restore those items, and using the proceeds to pay workers, Helms created a model centered on the dignity and power of work. This approach continues to influence Goodwill’s mission today. Locally, Heart of Texas Goodwill Industries was established in Waco in 1955 in response to the need for vocational training and employment opportunities. Over the years, the organization has expanded its programs and services to address the changing needs of individuals and communities throughout Central Texas. The presentation will highlight the organization’s current offerings, including vocational training, employment services, and other mission-focused resources available to the communities it serves.
