Staff Report & Agenda Item Details
The Rowlett Fire Department is seeking authorization to participate in the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) Prehospital Whole Blood (PHWB) Pilot Program administered through the North Central Texas Trauma Regional Advisory Council (NCTTRAC). The statewide program is designed to improve survival for patients experiencing life-threatening blood loss by allowing participating EMS providers to administer whole blood in the pre-hospital setting. Early blood administration can begin resuscitation at the scene while the patient is transported to an appropriate receiving hospital. Participation will provide the Rowlett Fire Department with access to the resources, training, and program support necessary to implement pre-hospital whole-blood administration in accordance with applicable state regulations and program requirements. The program applies to qualifying trauma, maternal hemorrhage, and other significant medical emergencies involving severe blood loss.
