Staff Report & Agenda Item Details

In 2002, the City Council passed Ordinance No. 2002-18, which, in part, named the 60-foot right-of-way running northwesterly along the entrance of the Whispering Pines Estates Subdivision as Baker Road. There is another section of road already named Baker Rd from FM 2351 to Stonewall Pass so this change resulted in duplicate road names. We chose Hackney Road because in some instances that name has been used for this road. The street sign at the intersection of Falling Leaf identifies the road as Hackney Rd. Hackney is also a Friendswood family name. This proposed ordinance repeals a portion of that ordinance and renames such right-of-way from Wilderness Trail to Stonewall Pass Road as Hackney Road. Note that the City's lift station is the only property with an address of Baker Road along this section of roadway. Therefore, this proposed change will not affect the address of any other person. The City Council approved this ordinance on first reading on August 11, 2026. This is the second and final reading of the ordinance.
