Staff Report & Agenda Item Details

Discuss and consider action regarding revisions to the City's existing Significant and Heritage Tree ordinance (Code of Ordinances, Chapter 14, Exhibit A, Article VI, Section 1 — Landscaping, Tree Preservation and Protection), to close provisions that currently permit wholesale removal of significant trees during development, and to bring the City's tree-preservation thresholds and mitigation fees into parity with neighboring Cities — consistent with the tree-ordinance revision Cedar Park adopted by unanimous vote in 2019.

Bastiat Liberty & Property Rights Analysis

This motion is scored as EXPANDS_GOVERNMENT (Impact Weight: 7.0/10). Under the Bastiat Liberty Watchdog Index, measures that increase tax rates or fee schedules, issue new debt or Certificates of Obligation, expand regulatory/zoning restrictions on private land use, or authorize unbudgeted spending expansions reduce an official's Freedom Score when voted YES (and reward dissenting NO votes).
