Presentation and Discussion Regarding the San Antonio River 2026 STEM Challenge
Staff Report & Agenda Item Details
As part of the San Antonio River Authority’s (River Authority) continued efforts to expand Flood Safety and Engineering education, the Education team launched the annual San Antonio River STEM Challenge , a multi-month design competition for 6th–8th grade students at Nimitz STEM Academy and the Advanced Learning Academy (ALA). The Challenge is designed to give more students the opportunity to demonstrate teamwork, innovation, and stewardship of the San Antonio River. River Authority Environmental Science and Engineering team members served as mentors and judges throughout the competition and collaborated on the development of the scoring platform. Funding for the program, including student prizes, was generously provided by the San Antonio River Foundation. For this meeting, the winners of the 2025 STEM Challenge will provide a brief introduction to their projects. Student teams were asked to identify local environmental issues affecting the San Antonio River Watershed, such as stormwater runoff, litter and pollution, and flooding, and develop their own solutions and project proposals.
