Staff Report & Agenda Item Details

The Westside Creeks Avian Study was a two-year effort conducted from October 2022 through September 2024 to document avian species within the Westside Creeks Restoration Project area. The study was designed to collect baseline data that will support future evaluations of changes in avian diversity and abundance as the restoration project matures, while also developing a comprehensive avian species list for the Westside Creeks area.To document bird species associated with the project area, two standardized survey methods were conducted across five sections of the Westside Creek system: Point Count Surveys and Incidental Surveys. Point Count Surveys provided quantitative baseline data that can be used in future statistical analyses to evaluate project outcomes related to habitat enhancement, restoration efforts, and adaptive management activities. Incidental Surveys supplemented the point count data and contributed to the development of a comprehensive bird list for the project area. The resulting species list will serve as an educational resource and support birdwatching and community engagement opportunities throughout the Westside Creeks corridor. Today's presentation will summarize the survey data and highlight the study's significant findings.
